Well this is it, I’m starting a web site.

Well this is it, I’m starting a website.

I grew up in many different cities across Canada, giving me a great perspective of this beautiful country, but I have been drawn to Sidney BC, where I know I have found an amazing home. Since finding out my heritage is very Scandinavian, and that my grandfather came from Norway, it explains a lot of where my design aesthetic originates.  It is my dream to end up in Norway one day.

My grandmother was my best friend growing up, and we did everything together, and to her I owe my love of art, shopping, design, and of course my sweet tooth. My eye for design began very early. When I was about 10 years old I was out shopping with my grandmother, and happened to find a couple of unique black and white coffee mugs, which as you can well imagine a 10 year old had no need for, but I had to have them! That was my first purchase.

I was always trying to decorate or style everything from homes to fashion, then and today. When I was around 12, we were at our cottage one summer and I decided that the bathroom should be wallpapered. So my grandma and myself rounded up all the supplies I needed. I then wallpapered my first project with her only watching, and adding the the odd tip. Every chance as a child I found myself drawing, taking art classes, and making things.

Further down the road I found my self moving to Vancouver BC to go to school for TV and film makeup. I ended up being in the film and television industry for around 16 years doing makeup on actors. However, my passion was always in the art department and set decoration, where I did have the chance on a few occasions to work and excel.

I have always loved animals and eventually rescued a dog who I named Wolseley Sinclair. Years later I rescued two more Griswold and Oslo. These sweet souls reaffirmed and opened my eyes to the unbelievable, unconditional love an animal has. It stems from them that led me to becoming a vegan, an animal advocate and changing the way I live. I ended up leaving my career as a makeup artist, because many of the products are still tested on animals and I chose not to be a part of this practice.
As things always happen for a reason, it has led me to start painting in a different medium, and trying to live a more animal friendly, and environmentally aware lifestyle.

I hope you enjoy my site. A portion of any sales of my paintings will go to the various animal rescues I support. I hope you can help me help them.

Love,
JJF
